Improving aluminum castings with beryllium
WitrynaBeryllium-Aluminum is extraordinarily strong but also lightweight. That makes it ideal for applications where weight reduction is highly prized (such as satellite and other space platforms). Satellite sensors, optical systems, rocket nozzles, and more all benefit from this stronger-than-steel alloy. WitrynaBeryllium-copper alloys are used in more critical applications; a 2% beryllium alloy can be cold worked and heat treated to give tensile strengths of 1000–1500 MN/m 2, while retaining a conductivity of 25–35% IACS. With other compositions and heat treatments even higher conductivities can be obtained.
